Workforce and Career Development for At-risk Youth

2022 Taskforce Report | Youth Career Exploration and Alignment Opportunities

In July of 2022, this Task Force was charged by Mayor John Cooper with developing a roadmap to expand youth career exploration and youth employment opportunities based on existing models and best practices.

“We know that an early introduction to job opportunities can shape a positive path forward in young people’s careers,” said Mayor John Cooper. “Connecting young people to good-paying jobs in growing industries – like music and entertainment, tourism and hospitality, and healthcare -- is an essential way we can grow our economy in Nashville in a way that works for everyone.”

We have needs in communities in our city that require more aggressive and direct involvement and investment. I have spent over 40 years working with at-risk youth in numerous cities throughout the US on many levels. I recognize the strategic needs of many of our youth. We need to build a long-term plan that provides greater opportunity and a foundation for a better quality of life for many. The plan must be sustainable across political and administrative changes to provide long-term progressive change.
